The Evil that Men Do

You might not have noticed that I’ve not written anything about Katrina, nor about the anniversary of 9/11, but I’ve noticed. I’ve been thinking about this. Partly it’s that it is very hard to write well about such overwelming events. Some things seem better honored by silence.

But more and more I think it’s because I hate George W. Bush and how his supervirus-like idiocy infects and denigrates these tragedies. My own emotional reaction to Katrina has been turned from pure sympathy to stomach shaking outrage because every time I turn around Bushy is busy playing, spinning, avoiding, screwing up, asking us to pray (!) for the victims when what they really need is water and food and turning the whole force of nature thing into a huge, narcissistic political wrangle. 9/11 becomes about him, his reaction, his hesitation, his seizing the damn bullhorn and spouting platitudes, his using the attack to justify his unjustifiable invasion of another country and to continue to use it to placate the angry people of this country. I hate how he has coopted marriage for heterosexuals, I hate how he has cute names for his cronies, I hate that he can’t string together a coherent sentence of English, I hate that he thinks he is the righteous head of this country, I hate that he makes me ashamed to be USAian, I hate that people voted for him twice, I hate that he hasn’t been impeached, I hate this whole farce of a presidency.

The worst of it shows best in these times when we should all be reaching out to people who need us and I don’t want to because I hate Bush. The real evil of George Bush is that he makes me less the person I want to be. I want to mourn the tragedy of 9/11 without thinking about his skewed and corrupt response. I want to help those struck by Katrina without thinking of him eating cake or his mother’s description of those people stuck in the Convention Center. Resist Bush. Live well.

At last, I see some of America waking up to the farce of the Dubya regime. Furtunately, he cannot run for a 3rd term!

I hope you did not vote for him. But, then again, as in most elections, what was the alternative? We usually end up voting for what we believe to be the lesser of two evils.
