Daniel explains the joke

This morning, Daniel asked if I would like to hear a joke. I said yes.
“All right. Here goes.” said Daniel. “What did one rabbit say to the other rabbit? ‘I’m having a bad hare day.’ You see, Mommy,” he continued, hardly pausing at all, “this joke is based on the homophones ‘hair’ and ‘hare.’ Hair, like on your head and hare, like rabbit. It’s a pun, you see? Do you understand?”
“Yes, I understand. Thank you,” I said gravely.
How very thoughtful! I was horribly ignorant of what a homophone is…:.? I think I know now.
