Design Yer Own
A little while ago, Daniel designed the hat he wanted me to knit. After a certain amount of negotiation and several adjustments (most notably to the number of colors), a hat was produced. This is my own execution of Daniel’s design, knit in Filatura di Crosa’s washable wool, 501. It’s a little lighter than worsted and I knit the hat on 7′s for the band and 6′s for the rest (since I didn’t have a good sized circular 7s or 7 dps).

He seems pretty happy. And I’m happy too. Interestingly, this little foray into design has illustrated to me how much happier (or more secure, to be exact) I am with a pattern. But perhaps it’s good for me to go outside my comfort zone a little.

It is fabulous! Hats off to Daniel for a good design (pun intended). The most I have done following my daughters’art direction is for birthday cake decoration. They change their minds with each new possibility they discover. Sprinkles! No. Chocolate chips! No. Gingerbread cookies! No. Make it a house! No, a-a-a rabbit!
Have you written out the pattern? Or was it a figure it out as you went along?
That is so neat that your son designed his own toque. He must be very proud of his creation.
Good hat Daniel! With excellent pompom.
Very nice design and execution. IT looks great on him.
