If I were rich, I’d…

Last year, Ed gave me a gift certificate for a massage which I have hoarded like gold for the promise of indulgence is almost as wonderful as indulgence itself. Feeling a bit post-holiday blue, I decided this was the time to book the massage. While definitely looking forward to it, I’m also feeling a little sad that now there will be no promise of indulgence to hoard. “If I were rich,” I thought to myself, “I would have massages all the time.” Which got me to thinking about what else I’d do if I were rich (or at least, if I had more money than we currently do).

If I were rich I’d have massages twice a month.
If I were rich I’d let someone else clean the bathroom and the kitchen floor.
If I were rich I’d go away for the weekend sometimes.
If I were rich I’d give lots of money to Oxfam, Amnesty International and maybe the ACLU.
If I were rich I’d rent a house in Italy for the summer and invite all my friends to visit.
If I were rich I’d have a house with a real spare room.
If I were rich I’d buy more yarn.
If I were rich I’d buy more books.
If I were rich I’d have green Doc Martens.
If I were rich I’d buy wonderful presents for everyone anytime I felt like it.
If I were rich I’d not panic about needing to put Daniel in private school.
If I were rich I’d have nice leather gloves.
If I were rich I’d learn how to sail a boat.
If I were rich I’d have fresh flowers in the house more often.

What would you do?

Great List! If I were rich I’d:
*definitely buy more fresh flowers and massages
*buy my Mom and Dad a new house (in a safer neighborhood)
*get my brother a lovely little house and round the clock care (he is in AIDS hospice now)
*support Doctors w/o borders, AIDS research, local women’s shelter, and PeTA (even though I’m a meat-eating hypocrite)
*have every wall in one room shelved for books, books, books
*get the yard landscaped instead of trying to plant things myself (a sad attempt, at best)
*travel all over Europe, and bring my kids (and a nanny!) with me
*get the kids their own computers

    Hmmm…

I’d get round the clock help for my great-gram so that my mom and grandma wouldn’t be so exhausted.

Pay for better health insurance for my parents.

Move to be closer to my family.

Open a coffee bar with my best friend.

    Travel with my husband regularly.

    Get my Ph.D.

    Get more massages…

(of course, I’d have to give up sleeping to fit this all in…)

    Happy New Year!

I like that…I’d like to have a house with a real spare room also. It sounds so nice. A room that would be cool, and empty, enough space to turn around and around in. A room complete in its potentiality.

Buy a farmhouse with lots of land in Devon and plant an orchard. Let the land revert to the wild.
Have the entire range of Sennelier pastels.
    Start a childrens publishing company.
    Have a few more cats(!)
    …and…buy even more books…
