Not dead yet
2006 January 27
Scene: After bath, in pajamas, cuddling after a bedtime book. Helena has her thumb in her mouth which she removes with a tiny pop.
Helena: We’re not dead yet, right Mommy?
Me: No, not dead yet.
Helena: That means we’re still alive?
Me: Yes, we’re alive.
Helena: How long will we be alive for?
Me: A long long time, I hope.
Helena: Then we will die. (Pause.) And when we die (long meaningful pause) we will be dead.
Me: (Pause). Yup.

Haha.
Do you read her Nietzsche as her bedtime story or what?
If only everything would be THAT simple!!
Kids can be quite amazing sometimes
Just found your blog and I think it’s really cool!
Sums it up nicely I think. If only we didn’t lose that wiseness as we get older…
