Knitting? Why of course

I was saving this to show you when it was all done. Around Christmas I knit a hat for my aunt. It looked like this before felting. Oooh, weird.

After felting, it looked like this. Ooooh, lovely.

Knit to my own combination of a KnitPicks freebie pattern and Fibertrends pattern in Wool Pak 14 Ply in some red color or other. It felted beautifully and left a sort of rough texture to the surface that suited the style of hat.

I’ve also knit up a poncho for a friend’s childrens’ school’s auction. Not my favorite colors but the instructions were – girly. Make it girly. Okey-dokey.Is it girly enough for ya? I nearly croaked. At least it’s got tassels and not (as requested) pompoms because I lack the knack. My pompoms end up not firm and ball shaped but floppy and sort of shruken. The colors are not absolutely accurate, but pretty close — this is wool and alpaca Berkshire Bulky from Valley Yarns (by Webs) using less than one skein of each color for a size 4-6. I really liked this yarn. And check out the stitch pattern. Groovesome, baby.
There’s still Daniel’s planet sweater, socks, a wraparound cardigan, a Kidsilk Haze pullover, a hat for PJ, a pinafore for a friend’s baby girl and several other things actually on needles. Not just a list, but works in progress. Yikes. Better get back to it.

What is that stitch? It looks like a bunch of stars! I like it very much.

I have to ask… A while ago you mentioned that you were knitting something that I really wanted to knit but I knew I would never finish it if I started because I would lose patience. When I saw you were knitting it I was excited to see its progress and hear about it- but you haven’t mentioned it… It is the sweater wrap on the cover of Interweive Knits, the red one. Is there hope for its completion? It didn’t make your list here…

Yes yes! It is the wraparound cardigan I mentioned — I love it (and I’m knitting it from malabrigo which I love) but I have to keep putting it aside for other projects which are for other people which somehow automatically take precedence.

Hmmm. There’s clearly a lesson in that if I am up to taking it.

you never did mention . . . what is that stitch pattern? Does it have a name? It does look like little stars . . . It’s great.

Sorry to hear you fell down the stairs. Honestly, I’m not laughing.

The pattern is from the Yarn Girls’ Guide to Beyond the Basics — although I altered it (different yarn, different colors and different size). Basically, it’s knit across, and then P3, leave those stitches on the needle, yarn over and purl 3 again through the same three stitches. It’s easier than it sounds. Then there’s a knit stitch between each set of p3 and you stagger where the pattern starts on each row. But the whole pattern is in their book. I don’t think this is a breach of copywright because it’s just a stitch pattern which I don’t think are copywrightable — but if it is a breach, let me know and I’ll do penance.

All right…I have to fess up on a few things:
    1. I LOVE THAT PONCHO. Too cute! Makes me wanna kidnap some kid and throw her in it, and take her around town. “Yes. It is handmade. Yes. It is a poncho. Yes. It is girly. Yes. It is a Stuntmother original.”
    2. I bought a Kate Spade bag on-line, so, I can forgoe the bag, but you simply MUST knit a sweater for me. Or a tablecloth. Or a blanket. Or a…something. I just want one of your creations.
    3. (Sigh) I heart Stuntmother’s creations.
