Problematic

“The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.”

— Theodore Rubin

I like when people open their blog posts with a pithy quote. However, if I had to do that every time, I’d dissolve into a pile of stressgoo. This one, however, I like very much. Chinaberry gave it to me after I finished placing an order with them. I like Chinaberry very much. They have good books, good toys and a good vibe. I also liked that after I helped test their new website they gave me a $50 coupon. The children will be most pleased with the loot, I am sure.

But back to the quote. This underpins my basic attitude towards life, including marriage, children, friendship and pretty much everything else. I am all about the problems. Problems are. They are not a judgement on how well you’re running things or how successful a match you’ve made. Problems are like waves. Without them, you’d be becalmed on a flat ocean, no breeze to ruffle the water, no current to push you places. No spray to cool your face and nothing to work with. Roll me onward, stormy sea. I will sail you, thick and thin, storm and calm.

I agree. Without problems life would get pretty darn boring, wouldn’t it? I just don’t need devastating problems . . . just little ones are fine thank you.

Chinaberry always has amazing picks for reading material. Love that place.

What a great thought. Let me say it came at a moment when I needed to be reminded of the fact, too.

    Simply: yes.

I also like: “Expectations are resentments waiting to happen”

I don’t know if that’s true all the time, but it certainly seems true most of the time.

Which is kinda like a generalization, but not quite.

You used the word ‘pithy’. I love you and I love that word.
