I knew I had a child around here somewhere
So, you’re out at the Renaissance Fair (or is it a Fayre?) or at the mall or at Monster trucks and you turn around and boom! little Timmy is nowhere to be seen? But luckily, you’ve sponged on one of these right before leaving home and so you’re in like Flynn and soon you and darling Timmy will be reunited.
When I was a child, my parents wrote out our address and phone number and stuck it to the wall by the supper table and made us all recite it every so often. Now modern technology replaces that tedious chore!
I can’t decide if these tattoo things are a good idea or not. Helena, for example, hates how tattoos feel on her skin so that’s her out. I do like the alzheimer ones and the autism ones, which I think are a jolly good idea, and would be a better one if people knew how to deal with an autistic child. One could also just safety-pin a label to their shirt I suppose.
I wonder if I could have special labels written out for my children. Daniel’s could read:
If this child looks lost, ask him to recite all necessary phone numbers. That will give me plenty of time to find him. If he starts reciting credit card numbers, please don’t write them down. Also, do not discuss controversial subjects like the Gaia theory or whether he can build a physical representation of a trillion in the living room.
Helena’s could read:
If this child looks lost, make sure you look like a fairly sensible mother. Do not attempt to hug her without permission. Check to see if Henrietta Pussycat is still there. Do not suggest that she is a boy, despite the short hair or she will stare at you meaningfully. If you give her your phone, she might phone her mother, or she might phone a friend. Either way, help will soon be on the way.
I think I need to go to bed.

Those temp tats with a purpose are werid… I am not sure how I feel about those…
The tats seem unduly paranoid to me. And I’m fairly paranoid at times.
Your personal labels are perfect! Sounds to me like you’ve got two children who will be able to handle this kind of situation–albeit in different ways.
heh.
i just use a permanent marker.
that way it stays on
for more than one occasion
and
i like the smell.
haha.
I did pin contact information labels in the girls clothes before they could recite their phone number or the family names. But I was always skeptical about their usefulness. Nothing seems to ease my anxiety when one temporarily disappears from my sight.
I was disappointed that the temporary tattoos were not like ordering ink stamps, garment tags or address labels. The only customised tattoos are for including business or organisation logos and you have to order 1000. For example: you send a complete description of what you want on the label and they send a pack back to you. No markers, just rub a new one on before you go. If you have a non-toxic marker, why use these tattoos?
I have to agree with the above – if someone is this paranoid, a handy marker would do the trick. If found, please call… Most of my own fears have centered around the idea of someone snatching them, though, in which case neither a tattoo or a written message would help.
Interesting concept but I agree a little permanent marker would work well too!
Your kids descriptions for help rock! You know your kids all too well!
gk girl, that comment was priceless. Seriously. Haha.
