Not better yet

Hey. I am not better yet. I have (ta da) a dry socket so perfect that the dentist this morning called in people from the hallway to peer at it. He packed it with something he said would “miraculously” take the pain away. Ha. I laugh dryly at his miracles and think longingly of alcohol.

I have googled dry socket (and probably should have done so three days ago when the pain was so bad that I wanted to rip my own head off) and hey, know what? Excruciating pain is symptom number one.

I come from a clan that laughs at pain, who takes trays of cookies from the oven with no mitts. Teflon hands, Ed calls them. I do have a very high pain threshold — like my mother who once dropped a huge tin of tomatoes on her bare foot, splitting her toenail into four and didn’t even cry out. She limped up the cellar stairs, trailing blood and calmly asked me to get her a bandaid. I have been crawling along this week, trying to get by and wondering why I had suddenly got so weak and feeble that I couldn’t deal with a little tooth pain.

So I haven’t blogged. I’ve been too pain-riddled and dizzy and foggy to blog. I haven’t done much of anything but be in pain. At least now we know and hopefully, things should start improving and I can talk about moving, houses and schooling again without actually wanting to bang my head against the wall. Or not, at least, because of the damn dry socket.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling so poorly. I hope the new miracle drugs help quickly. At least you’re conscious enough to write. Heal!!

    Clove oil

That is the ticket. Get some clove oil, saturate a peice of gauze in it, and apply. Tastes like crap but does soothe the pain. I had all four of my extraction points become dry socket.

    And with things like:
    Dry Socket
    Any kind of toothache whatsoever
    Migraine headaches
    and
    Motorcycle exhaust burns

You are allowed to cry, scream, gnash teeth, and throw objects. It’s totally okay and will not make you look like a wuss.

    OHMYGOD

Sorry to shout, but I read the googled links and I think the fact that you remained sentient (as opposed to turning into a screaming lump of protoplasm) is a sign that you have a high pain threshold.

sending you as much positive, pain free energy as I can

I’m too chicken to read the google results for ‘dry socket’. I don’t know what it is, but it sounds just bloody awful. I really hope the pain’s gone soon. Like, now.

tooth pain is particularly horrid, if you think about it, cos it’s right inside your head. have you had earache recently? or sinus pain. no winder kids are so miserable with ear infections. you are totally excused being stoical.
