I AM NOT I
by Juan Ramon

I am not I.
I am walking beside me
whom I do not see,
whom at times I manage to visit
and at other times manage to forget.
The one who forgives sweet when I hate,
the one who takes a walk when I am indoors,
the one who remains silent when I talk,
and the one who will remain when I die.

These days, the I that I am most up top on the surface is a bit worried, a bit sad, a bit reluctant and angry and stressed. The move, you know. Ah yes, the move.

Well, bugger that. I’m boring myself (never mind you) with all this whining and worrying and boohoohooing about what can’t be changed and what will likely be all right in the end. So this week on Stuntmother, I’m going to employ Daniel’s new time-travelling technology and scoot around to the other possible me’s who never made it because they were the other choice, the road not taken, the door I closed. Time to visit some of them and let them blog for a change.

And for the purposes of this fancy flight, I am assuming that none of these other me’s perished in housefires, or succumbed to consumption or constipation. I am assuming that other than making a crucial other choice at the crucial moment, that I stayed more or less myself, which means I’m still short, strong, asthmatic, opinionated and operatic.

I can’t wait–I’m fascinated by the idea that one different choice could change everything. It’s a perfectly useless fascination of course, but…

There’s often someone different at my blog wheel. And after a certain post, I just look around the room and say, “Okay…which one of you idiots just wrote that?”

And they all just sort of giggle. And then I let them be. It’s really a mutual understanding of sorts.

All this has something to do with the “space-time continueum”, doesn’t it?
A little fantasy filled with would-ofs and could-ofs can liven up the imagination indeed.

To me, that is the essence of blogging: to let the “I that am not I” express herself.

You can whine and worry all you want here b/c there are no repercussions. Let us run your life for you, and we will! No repercussions.
