Whose house? New house.
I’m still feeling like I’ve snuck into someone else’s house (with a truckload of my crap) and that any minute now they’re going to come home from holiday and get really shirty with us. And then what am I going to do with all these half-opened boxes?
This might explain why I’ve been attempting to assert ownership of the house with a screwdriver. Some people might, I don’t know, actually unpack. I unscrew things. And then screw other things in. Sometimes I use a drill. Thus, I let that house know that I own it. It’s like peeing on it, only neater.
Another way we’ve been announcing our ownership is this:Hey buddy, those are OUR flowers. And we can cut them if we want to.

We’ve been in our *new* house for a year now, and I’ve still not made it mine in the ways I want to. Will be so good to get rid of the calico wallpaper, you know? It took me months to hang anything on the walls.
Good luck with the unpacking.
Enjoy the process – and when you’re all done, you may just find the house owns you, too.
Ah, hydrangeas, how I miss them. Enjoy your cut flowers. Just wait until autumn’s bounty and glory explode in your area.
It will take about 6 months before you stop feeling like an outsider and start feeling like you belong there. It is a surreal existence for a while, though.
I used to stand in my kitchen & just soak it up! Odd I know, but I still love this house after 10 years. With all it’s warts, I still love it.
Those Hydrangeas are such a beautiful colour!
For me, it’s the shower. When I stop noticing that I’m in a different shower, then I know I feel at home.
we’ve been here for a year now too and it finally feels exactly like home ~ basically i’ve peed in all the corners now though the lilac cutting helped
beautiful hydrangeas!!
Good choice on the screwdriver … pee tends to smell.
Lovely, fat, fulsome hydrangeas….
Nothing like a fat, fulsome hydrangea to make you feel you own the world.
My favorite flowers ever!
Good flowers!!
Glad to hear you’re asserting ownership (esp. with a screwdriver and not with pee)! My sister’s moving today, and I’m a little jealous of the experience. The small incremental “claiming” of a new place is a process I always enjoyed.
Omigosh, you’re so lucky to have your very own pink hydrangea! I can’t seem to grow ANY hydrangea…too much sun and the soil is not quite right. I’ve tried three times and am now loathe to torture any more poor hydrangea plants.
I know what you mean about asserting ownership in a new house. I always need to paint the walls and change the swirthplates first off, myself.
